All OSA classes follow official curriculum of the American Canoe Association (ACA) and all our instructors are ACA-certified.

Intro to Kayaking is a six-hour course designed to introduce you to the sport of kayaking.
It covers equipment, strokes and how to deal with capsize. The cost is $95, including lunch.

Offered Saturdays, 10:00 a.m. to 2 p.m., late May through October

Basic Kayaking is a full-day course designed to help you become a confident, capable paddler in calm conditions. It covers equipment, strokes and how to perform self and assisted rescues. The cost is $120, including lunch.

Basic Kayaking for Women tailors the Basic Kayaking course to women's learning styles and experiences and is taught by women instructors. We emphasize learning in a non-competitive, non-judgmental environment, and we also have lots of fun! The cost is $120, including lunch.

Strokes Development is an intensive 4-hour clinic to work out the kinks in your strokes and increase your repertoire and paddling efficiency. From ironing out your forward stroke to adding brace turns, rudders, sweeps and draws, this course is designed to get you to the next level of enjoyment in your kayak. The cost is $65.

Prerequisite: Basic Kayaking, Intro to Kayaking or equivalent.

Rescues Practice picks up where you left off at the end of your first kayak lesson. We'll focus entirely on ways to build your skill and confidence levels in getting yourself and others back into your kayaks after a capsize. Four hours. The cost is $65.

Prerequisite: Intro to Kayaking, Basic Kayaking or equivalent.

Kayak Rolling is a survival technique originated by Inuit kayakers in frigid Arctic waters. This four-hour course breaks the roll down into its basic components. It is open to intermediate-advanced paddlers and is a prerequisite for the Kayak Surfing course. The cost is $65.

Kayak Surfing is a full-day course that teaches how to safely launch, land and surf with a kayak. Learn about timing, rolling, broaching and bracing in breaking waves, safety and avoiding injury. Competence and experience at the Coastal Kayaking level and a reliable roll are prequisites for this course.

Rough Water Maneuvering, Towing and Rescues is an advanced course open to
paddlers who are competent and experienced at the Coastal Kayaking level and have a reliable roll. Participants learn to paddle safely in rough water, wind, breaking waves and current, to tow in adverse conditions, and to perform self and assisted rescues in rough water with loaded boats. Participants may use their own boats, which are subject to a fit and safety
inspection, must be at least 16 feet and outfitted with bulkheads and perimeter decklines.

2-Hour Evening Practice Sessions - Paddling and Rolling
Retain and build upon the skills you've learned in our instructional courses, or brush up on your technique with instructor feedback. Rolling especially is a skill that must be maintained through practice. Eliminate those pesky, time-consuming wet exits and re-entries; let us
coach you and stand by to roll you upright if you get stuck.

$50 for 2-hour practice session, $25 if you have taken a class from OSA
within the last month.

Private Instruction and Guiding
